Working Partnerships USA (WPUSA) was founded in 1995 as a coalition of community groups, labor, and faith organizations seeking a response to the widening gap between the rich and poor in Silicon Valley. Our mission is to address the needs of working people through strategic initiatives that build the institutional power of working class communities, reframe issues, and create replicable models for progressive action. Working Partnerships USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Over the past decade, Working Partnerships USA has evolved into one of the leading social change organizations in California. Much of the success of our programs has been due to our ability to strengthen community power by bringing together disparate constituencies who share common concerns. With a history of organizing and coalition building, and extensive experience in research, advocacy and policy development under one roof, Working Partnerships USA operates as an action-oriented think tank.
Working Partnerships USA’s work is concentrated in four focus areas: Economic Research and Analysis, Government Accountability and Reform, Expanding Health Care Access, andOrganizing and Leadership Development. Through these four concentrations we tackle the issues directly impacting working families’ lives while supporting communities in building their ability to participate in decision-making. Working Partnerships USA also houses Union Community Resources, which provides emergency financial assistance to workers, supported by mutual aid from union members, to help families stay afloat when an unanticipated hardship or disaster strikes.
While our work remains rooted in San Jose and Santa Clara County, we are now aiming to scale up the successes that Working Partnerships and similar organizations have accomplished at the local and regional level. Through statewide and national collaborations, Working Partnerships USA is working to build networks of strong regional progressive coalitions across the state and the country, and to bring these regions together to jointly advocate for economic justice.
